V13 Premieres The Schisms’ New EP Tejas

The Schisms’ new EP Tejas is out today, available digitally and on vinyl. V13 premiered the full stream, describing the songs as “a lot punchier and brighter than anything the band has done previously.”

Made with Grammy-winning producer Stuart Sikes (The White Stripes, Cat Power, Loretta Lynn), the Austin psych-goth trio’s four-track EP features “I Learn To Love” and “All The Good Things.” In the premiere feature, frontman Carson Barker discusses how a winter spent alone in a Colorado cabin helped shape the EP’s more hopeful direction.

“These songs are proof that isolation and depression can turn coal into diamonds,” Barker says.

The Schisms Share “All The Good Things” Ahead of Tejas EP

Austin psych-goth trio The Schisms have shared “All The Good Things,” the second single from their forthcoming EP Tejas, out October 2. Made with producer Stuart Sikes, the song is a plea to keep going through difficult times.

“The core of this song came to me all at once,” says frontman Carson Barker. “Stuart and I ripped this song to pieces and rebuilt it over and over again, so it came out bruised and beaten, but with its head up high.” It follows the EP’s first single, “I Learn To Love,” and its video by Three-Eyed Cat Collective.

Austin psych rock trio The Schisms announce new EP, share first single

Austin psych-goth trio The Schisms have shared the new video for “I Learn To Love,” the first single from their forthcoming EP, Tejas, out October 2. Produced by Grammy-winning producer and engineer Stuart Sikes, the track combines early rock ’n’ roll rhythms with punk abrasion, psychedelic color and goth unease—earning the fitting description, “A mantra found a backbeat and acquired teeth.” - Post-Punk.com

Created with Austin film crew Three-Eyed Cat Collective, the video throws the band into a surreal collision of green-screen chaos, Texas iconography and collapsing VHS imagery. Watch “I Learn To Love” now and stay tuned for more from Tejas.
