The Lovely Sparrows, the longtime Austin area project of Shawn Jones, have made their return from a seven year hiatus from the pop music world to bring you this video for “A Light,” which just premiered on Billboard today! The video is done by Fantagraphics artist, Derek Van Gieson, and features in depth stylized animation of a character living in a post-apocalyptic world on a quest. Musically, “A Light” is soft indie rock, with frenetic riffs and a feeling of constant motion; kind of like a swirling undercurrent that pulls you in and holds you under. Take a peek at the video below and get excited for The Lovely Sparrows first LP in 7 years, Shake The Shadow, which will be out this Friday on Abandoned Love Records.
LA-based Lisa Papineau has announced her fourth solo record for release on February 15 and shared a video for the title track at Parade Magazine, who say, “Minimally produced with uber-present vocals underlying a contemplative and simple stop animation video, the song and video showcase Papineau’s lush and lovely vocals.” The video was created by longtime creative collaborator Betsy Kenyon and you can check it out below!
San Francisco’s Dire Wolves are celebrating the release of their new album, Paradisiacal Mind, tonight in their hometown, and they’ve shared with the world their whole trippy album in full ahead of its official Friday release over with the lovely folks at Treble. Treble had some nice words to say about the release:
“It’s a spacey, cosmic and spiritual set of psychedelic sounds, combining influences from krautrock, spiritual jazz, prog and more avant garde musical realms—at times sounding like Pharoah Sanders jamming with Ash Ra Tempel. It’s quite a trip, perhaps the sort of thing that’s necessary to give a spin during the chaos of a national election. It’s a weird and wonderful set of sounds from a band that’s always headed toward some new and unfamiliar realm”
Danny Golden is about to release his sophomore LP, Old Love, but before that happens this Friday, Nov. 2, he’s shared a new tune on KUTX. This track, “Window,” is a honky tonk rock and roll track, merging americana, country, and rock in one lovely little package. This song is just a example of how Danny Golden blends genres and his Austin influences on his new album. Head over to KUTX to read up on the new track, or take a listen below.
Lisa Marie Smith has revealed the opening cut from her debut EP today at Substream Magazine, who say the track is “built upon a sound that emulates the mood of Smith’s Vegas home, a sound that invites you into a night where anything could happen.” Smith will be celebrating the EP release in Las Vegas at the brand new ESports Arena at The Luxor on November 12 before the EP’s proper release on Fervor Records Friday, November 16.
Denver-based folk troubadour Kramies spent some time last year residing in an old Irish castle as he wrote the songs that would become Of All the Places Been & Everything the End, an EP he is releasing today with a premiere at Flaunt Magazine. Unlike most of his previous work, on this release, Kramies partnered with a few talented friends to realize the full potential of the songs. Longtime collaborator Jason Lytle of Grandaddy is featured on the record and lended a hand in production, along with Jerry Becker of Train and Todd Tobias of Guided by Voices. The result is a dreamlike fairytale journey to get yourself lost in. Stream it via Bandcamp below!
