Speaking of the inspiration behind the song, Sant says, “Like much of my music, this song grapples with questions. I remember growing up learning about astronomers from a few centuries ago. In stories about them, they gaze up at the stars and have that odd feeling of being crushed by the infinite nature of the stars they were studying. They called that feeling the “sublime”.
